The Half Marathon starts at the magnificent Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. The run takes participants east along the Riverfront Trail winding through grasslands and along the banks of the Columbia River. 90% of the run course is on paved paths and trails that are closed to motorist allowing you to focus on nothing but running your best time. Aid stations will be strategically placed every 2 miles along the course and well stocked with Gatorade, GU, fruit bars and water as well as port a potties at every rest stop.
Brand new for 2013 is the Cherry Blossom Half Marathon Team Relay. Event consist of two person teams of men, women and mixed. One runner will start with rest of the half marathon runners and at then hand off a race band to their teammate at the half way point at The Dalles Marina. There is no shuttle so it is encouraged that you have the second leg runner drive out to the transition area at The Dalles Marina and then leave a vehicle for the the leg runner to drive back to the Discovery Center with. There is ample parking and nearly all freeway access between the start and the halfway point of the run for ease and convenience. Drive time is roughly 10 minutes.
